Police launches operations after bomb blast

Imphal, Dec 17 (UNI) The Manipur police and troops today launched massive operations in Imphal East after several persons were killed and many injured in a bomb blast there yesterday.

Seven people, including three women, were killed and 27 were injured, 12 seriously, in the blast reportedly triggered by some militants at Pourabi in Imphal East.

Police have raided some hideouts of militants in those areas and have beefed up the security arrangements.

The bomb was planted in the middle of the road, police said.

Police have also patrolled the Imphal Pukhao road and a bomb squad have scanned the area with the help of bomb detectors and dog.

Three people died on the spot and three other died at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) while another victim succumbed to his injuries at JN hospital here late last night.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, who is now presently in the national capital, have condemned the attack on the civilians and assured financial assistance to the blast victims.

Meanwhile, the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN), Pourabi Rising Star Club, Pourabi Lainingthou Puthiba Thousil Kanglup cum Development Committee, have also condemned the blast.

However, investigation is on to nab the culprits as none of the outfits have taken responsibilty of the blast, police said.
