Opposition demands statement by CM on Maoist posters

Kolkata, Dec 17 (UNI) The Opposition Congress and Trinamool Congress today demanded a statement by West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in the Assembly on the Maoist posters found on the State Secretariat building.

Raising the issue during mention hour, Congress Chief Whip Manas Bhuniya demanded that the Chief Minister be called to give a statement on the issue.

" How a Chief Minister can be away on tours to districts for party work when the House is on, " Dr Bhuniya asked.

Leader of the Opposition Partha Chatterjee demanded that the Chief Minister be reprimanded by the Chair for being busy with party programmes when the House was on.

" The Chief Minister should tell the House how activities of Maoists are gaining ground in West Bengal and what measures the Government is taking to counter it, " they said.

Both Mr Chatterjee and Mr Bhunia alleged that the bogey of Maoist threat was being raised to curb the activities of the Opposition parties.
