Mazumdar misses century as Mumbai notched up 324

Dharamsala, Dec 17 (UNI) Amol Mazumdar missed a well deserved century as defending champions Mumbai notched up 324 for the loss of nine wickets against hosts Himachal Pradesh on the opening day of their Ranji Trophy Super League Group A tie here today.

A K Thakur, who captured four wickets, was the most impressive among the Himachal bowlers. He removed the dangerous Mazumdar, trapping him lbw when the latter was on 90.

Mumbai, who elected to bat after winning the toss, suffered an early jolt when S Kukreja was dismissed by V Malik with just five runs on the board.

Indulkar and Rahane tried to steady the innings with a first-wicket partnership of 77 runs before both were dismissed when the score was on 82.

Thereafter, the visitors continued to lose wickets at regular intervals. V Samant and I Abdulla staged a late fighback, putting on 55 runs for the eighth wicket. Their stand came to an end when Abdulla was run out by Sangram Singh for a personal score of 32 runs.
