Left Front compelled to support Congress-led UPA Govt : CM
Jalpaiguri, Dec 17 (UNI) West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today said despite the burgeoning gap between the rich and the poor, the Left Front was compelled to extend support to the Congress-led UPA Government at the Centre only to keep the "communal" BJP at bay.
Speaking on the last day of the 21st CPI(M) District Committtee meeting, Mr Bhattacharjee said, '' In spite the rich becoming richer and the poor poorer during the Congress regime, we have no option but to support the UPA Government only to prevent the BJP from coming to the saddle. " " We will continue supporting them. Otherwise, we will have to strike an alliance with the BJP, trying to create a Hindu nation.
This will create nothing but communal riots, " Mr Bhattacharjee asserted.
Citing the example of China and its development as a Communist state, he said, " Even China has the guts to oppose the US, while we spread our hands to beg before them. " Meanwhile, in Jalpaiguri Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) Chairman Subhas Ghisingh had a fruitful meeting with Mr Bhattacharjee on according Sixth Schedule status to Darjeeling hills.
