Dantewada, Dec 17 (UNI) The Chhattisgarh police this evening arrested V S Mankar, jailer of Dantewada sub-jail from where nearly 300 prisoners, including Naxalites, had escaped yesterday.
Police sources said the arrest was made after a detailed interrogation of Mankar about the circumstances that led to the escape of prisoners.
A case has been registered against him under sections 128, 129 and 130 of Indian Penal Code that deal with facilitating escape of prisoners by a public servant, the police said.
Nearly 300 prisoners, including Naxalites, had escaped from the sub-jail in Dantewada, one of the worst-Naxalite affected districts in the country.
Earlier, the state government had suspended Deputy Inspector General (Jails) P D Verma, holding him responsible for the security lapse in the prison.
