IICF nets Rs 45 crore business from foreign buyers

Kochi, Dec 17 (UNI) The recently-concluded India International Coir Fair (IICF-2007) has netted orders worth Rs 45 crore from foreign participating buyers in the five-day event.

Coir Board Chairman A C Jose, in a statement here today, said there were trade enquires worth Rs 105 crore, which could materialise in the immediate future.

He said a number of coir exporters and manufacturers would benefit as the percentage of business that emerged at the fair in proportion to the existing business was 13.45 per cent.

The fair, which had 75 stalls showcasing different coir products, was visited by 106 buyers from as many as 33 countries, Mr Jose said.

There were about 100 domestic buyers and spot orders worth Rs 15 crore were placed and serious enquiries to the tune of around Rs 35 crore emerged.

Exclusive pavilions were put up by Khadi and Village Industries, Coconut Development Board, NSIC and other Government departments.
