Ranchi, Dec 17 (UNI) The killing of a scribe last night in Deoghar district today rocked the Jharkhand Assembly as the Opposition came down heavily on the ruling UPA, alleging that the involvement of a Minister delayed the investigation process.
With the scene turning chaotic, Chief Minister Madhu Koda intervened and assured the House of furnishing a detailed report on the matter.
As Speaker Alamgir Alam announced beginning of the day's proceedings, Mr Pradeep Yadav (BJP) raised the issue of murder of local scribe Pramod Kumar Munna near Baidyanath Dham railway station at 1940 hrs yesterday.
Mr Yadav told the House that the administration was yet to take necessary step to investigate the crime as Minister Harinarayan Ray's name had cropped up and demanded a CBI inquiry into it.
The entire Opposition condemned the crime and expressed concern that the journalists in the state were no more safe.
The Opposition said the deceased had been writing a series of stories on land disputes and the Minister in question did not like the same.
However, the Chief Minister said the deceased had earlier survived a bid on him a few years back in Bihar's Jamui district in which one of his eyes got damaged.
A year back, his brother was attacked by some miscreants, Mr Koda said, adding the investigation team would keep in view all these angles while proceeding with the case.
Mr Koda said police were investigating the case.
Mr Ravindra Rai (BJP) said five years ago another journalist was also killed by miscreants in the same district.
