BEST Union to oppose amalgamation of transport services

Mumbai, Dec 17 (UNI) The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Workers Union general secretary Sharad Rao today said it was totally opposed to the amalgamation of BEST Undertaking with Thane, New Mumbai, Dombivli and Kalyan transport services.

Speaking at a press conference here, Mr Rao said ''The move will be suicidal for the citizens of Mumbai. It is an attempt to take the BEST away from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).'' He alleged that there is an attempt to run the BEST as a separate entity and the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP in the BMC is supporting the General Manager of the BEST, Uttam Khobragade, in the cause.

''Our Union is active in Thane, New Mumbai, Dombivli and Kalyan transport services and we will never let the amalgamation of the transport services take place,'' added Mr Rao.
