BAPS leader Pramukh Swami sets 2 Guinness World Records

Ahmedabad, Dec 17 (UNI) Spiritual leader of Bochasanvasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha's (BAPS) Pramukh Swami today received a prestigious birthday gift in the form of certificates of two world records by Guinness Book of World Records at a function to mark his 87th birthday here.

The function was held at the culmination of the four-day BAPS centenary celebrations in the city.

According to Mr Whitty of Guinness Book, Pramukh Swami is responsible for setting two world records -- Most Hindu mandir consecreated by a single person and World's largest comprehensive Hindu temple.

Pramukh Swami has set a world record by consecrating 713 temples in five continents between April 1971 and November this year.

BAPS temple in New Delhi is the world's largest comprehensive Hindu temple. It measures 356 ft wide and 141 ft high, covering an area of 86,342 ft. The grand ancient style, ornately hand-carved stone temple has been built without structural steel within five years by 11,000 artisans and volunteers. The temple was consecrated by Pramukh Swami on November 6, 2005.
