Chennai, Dec 16 (UNI) As part of the efforts to increase arrival of tourists to the state, Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) will organise 'Mamallapuram Dance Festival 2008' from December 28.
Talking to newspersons here, Tourism and Tamil Culture Department Secretary and TTDC MD V Irai Anbu said this year the government had planned to organise 64 rural folk dances during the one-month long festival. State Tourism Minister N Suresh Rajan would inaugurate the festival.
The venue of the festival was the site of 'Arjuna's Penance', a bass-relief sculpted on the face of two enormous adjacent rocks, he said.
Participants of the festival include distinguished people from the field of classical dances, he added.
All the programmes of the festival would take place on an open-air stage, with the splendid Pallava rock sculptures serving as the backdrop, he said.
''Apart from the classical performances, one can also see artists performing numerous folk dances. Artists form all over the country will come here to take part in this dance festival,'' he added.
