Chennai, Dec 16 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Secretary L K Tripathy today held discussions with senior officials of the Chennai Airport over land acquisition for the proposed airport expansion project.
Airport sources said the discussions during the meeting, lasting nearly an hour, covered the airport's expansion and land acquisition.
Despite the Centre's nod, the project had been temporarily shelved due to stiff opposition by locals and some political parties, including the PMK, an ally of the DMK-led DPA in the state.
More than 50,000 people had staged protests alleging the land acquisition for the project would affect them.
Political parties, including the AIADMK and the PMK, had joined the fray lending support to the local people preventing the state government from going ahead with the land acquisition.
