Security beefed up for CM's arrival and adivasi strike

Jalpaiguri, Dec 16 (UNI) Security has been beefed up in this district of West Bengal, in view of a 12-hour strike called by the Adivasis in the district , especially with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's arrival tomorrow.

The Chief Minister will be arriving here for the last day of the 21st District Conference of the CPI(M) in Mainagari.

Adivasi tribal students' union Paschimbanga Adivasi Chatrasangha president Bhanu Murmu said they are calling the strike in Duars and Tarai regions, in protest against atrocities on adivasis in Guwahati (Assam) and to demand constitutional acceptance of their community in the state.

Jalpaiguri SP S Tripurari said additional security cover will be provided to the Chief Minister and all necessary arrangeents had already been made to avoid any untoward incident during the adivasi-sponsored strike tomorrow. Security has, especially, been increased in the adivasi-dominated areas.
