search operations on to trace absconding prisoners: Raman

Raipur, Dec 16 (UNI) Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today said a massive operation has been launched in South Bastar region to round up the prisoners who had escaped from the sub-jail in Dantewada district.

''It is a serious incident. Steps on war-footing is being taken to arrest those who had escaped from jail,'' he said, in a statement after about 300 prisoners escaped from the sub-jail in Dantewada district in Maoist infested South Bastar region.

Meanwhile, state Home and Jail Minister Ram Vichar Netam has directed the authorities concerned to beef up security arrangements in all the jails.

Official sources said Mr Netam has asked the Director General of Police Vishwaranjan and Director General (Jails) Sant Kumar Paswan personally supervise the arrangements to tighten security arrangements in jail and the search operations.
