Mandala Pooja at Ayyappa Temple on Dec 27

Pathanamthitta, Kerala, Dec 16 (UNI) This year's 'Mandala Pooja' at Sabarimala Lord Ayyappan Temple will be held on December 27 between 1229 hrs and 1240 hrs in 'Meenam Rasi,' according to Tantri Kantaru Maheswararu.' 'Mandala Pooja' will be performed after adorning the Ayyappa Idol with the 'Thanka Anki,' weighing 420 sovereigns, offered to Lord Ayyappa by the Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma of the erstwhile Royal Family of Travancore in 1972.

The 'Thanka Anki,' being kept in the strong-room of Aranmula Parthasarathy Temple, will be taken in a procession, mounted on a chariot, on December 23 at 0630 hrs. It will reach Pampa on December 26 at 1230 hrs.

The procession will reach Saramkuthy from where it will be taken to 'Sannidhanam' by Devaswom Board officials and Ayyappa Seva Sanghom volunteers.

Melsanthi T K Krishnan Nampoothiri will receive the 'Anki' at 'Sopanam' and take it into the sanctum sanctorum and adorn the Ayyappa idol just before 'Deeparadhana.' Following 'Mandala Pooja,' the Temple will be closed on December 27 at 2300 hrs. The hill shrine will be reopened for 'Makaravilakku' festival on December 30 at 1700 hrs.

'Makaravilakku' falls on January 14. The temple will be closed on the morning of January 20.
