Aizawl, Dec 16 (UNI) An honest Mizo taxi driver in Aizawl has done the entire state of Mizoram proud and earned appreciation from tne National School Games officials here.
Taxi driver Lalthazuala returned goods, worth about Rs 50,000, left by passengers in his taxi, to the owners who happened to be officials from New Delhi, participating at the National School Games in Aizawl.
The laudable act of the cabbie, having moderate means, has propagated the impression among the participants from other states that Mizos are honest people.
''We have travelled throughout all parts of the country, but never have we seen such an honest person. We believe that all the Mizos are honest people, we have great trust in you,'' the officials said.
The officials had hired the taxi on December 13 and forgot their belongings in the taxi.
Even though the taxi driver was unable to locate where his passengers were staying, his knowledge that they were National School Games officials and presence of mind enabled him to return the goods to state Sports and Youth Affairs Director Zoliana Royte, who in turn, handed them over to the owners.
