Haryana tops in 53rd National School Games

Aizawl, Dec 16 (UNI) Haryana has become the champion of the 53rd National School Games which concluded here.

Haryana won eight gold, three silver and six bronze medals to lift the championship trophy yesterday.

Hosts Mizoram finished second with seven gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals, followed by Manipur, which won six gold, four silver and four bronze medals.

Mizoram Governor Lt Gen M M Lakhera presided over the concluding ceremony of the games at the Assam Rifles' Ground.

He asserted that people of diverse cultures and languages live together in India and this diversity is the glory and strength of the nation.

He also stated that not only for games and sports, the National School Games were crucial for building a better relationship between the people and understanding each others' cultures.

As many as 623 men and 792 women sportspersons, including 258 officials from states, union territories and 28 affiliated units participated in the games.
