Thane, Dec 16 (UNI) Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) commissioner Ratnakar Gaikwad has assured that the Authority will ensure development here in Thane.

Mr Gaikwad was presiding over a meeting organized by the Thane Municipal Corporation here recently.

At the meeting, it was suggested that four flyovers -- one each at the Manpada, Patlipada, Kasarwadavli, and Wagbhil -- be constructed to ease traffic congestion on the Ghodbunder road. Mr Gaikwad assured that the proposal would be cleared at the MMRDA meeting to be held on December 21.

He informed that under the Nirmal Abhiyan, a total of 90,000 toilets have been approved for construction in Thane at a sum of Rs 70 crore.

He said work on the Monorail project for Mumbai will commence within a couple of months, and this will be followed by similar Monorail projects in Thane and Bhiwandi.

Mr Gaikwad assured that MMRDA would make available loans for health, education and other projects if the Thane Municipal Corporation forwarded proposals on the same. He said a loan has been sanctioned to the Thane Civic Transport services for the purchase of 87 new buses.
