Shimla, Dec 16 (UNI) Accusing the UPA government at the Centre of being unfair towards the hill states, former Uttaranchal Chief Minister Bhagat Singh Koshiyari today said it had curtailed the period of the special industrial packages of Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal.

Addressing mediapersons here, he said despite the Congress being in power at the Centre and Himachal, the centre had curtailed the packages to 2010 from the earlier 2013 as granted by the then NDA government.

Mr Koshiyari said while the previous NDA government led by Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee had sanctioned several financial packages, besides the industrial package, the present government had given it a step motherly treatment by not issuing any package.

So much so, that the special industrial packages to Himachal and Uttaranchal were curtailed to seven years from the original ten years and that too when the Congress governments were in power in both the states, he added.

He said during the NDA Government, Himachal was given special financial packages since Mr Vajpayee considered it his home state.

The present UPA Government has not issued a single paise to the state in the past three years, he claimed.

The BJP leader also criticised UPA Chairperson and AICC president Sonia Gandhi of spewing venom against the BJP in her every public meetings held at Gujarat and Himachal where assembly elections are being held.
