Chennai, Dec 15 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Traders Federation will stage a demonstration on December 20, demanding a judicial inquiry into the recent custodial death of a tea shop owner in the city.
Talking to newspersons here today, Federation President T Vellaiyan said the agitation was also to demand permanent suspension of the police officials involved in the incident, their immediate arrest and slapping of a murder case against them.
Alleging that tea shop owner Syed Ali, hailing from Kerala, was beaten to death in police custody, Mr Vallaiyan also demanded stringent action against the police for trying to hush up the issue.
He said such acts by some police officials were tarnishing the image of the government and the police force.
Describing the RDO probe into the incident as an ''eye wash'', he said a Joint Action Committee had been formed in Kerala to urge the government in that state to exert pressure on its Tamil Nadu counterpart to render justice.
''If our demands are not conceded, the federation will observe one-day hartal in the city and would also lay siege to the City Police Commissioner's office'', he added.
Mr Vellaiyan said he would also meet Chief Minister in this' regard.
