Northeast dancers to meet at Imphal

Imphal, Dec 15 (UNI) The Forum for Laboratory Theatres and the Directorate of Art and Culture, Manipur, will jointly organise a fortnight-long National Inter disciplinary Performance Workshop for Young female dancers of North East India here from December 16 - 29.

The president of Forum for Laboratory Theatres Dr Lokendra Arambam said that the workshop's aim was to impart knowledge among young female dancers of NE states and the values and principles of contemporary dance art .

Internationally acclaimed dancer Astab Deboo would be supervising the workship, Dr Arambam said, while adding that personalities from contemporary theatre, ritual, poetry, music, visual arts, films and human rights activists will converge together to understand dance forms of the region.

Thirteen renowned artistes from Manipur, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh,Assam and Nagaland will take part in the workshop.

Mr Biren Das, a resource person from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Kolkata will deliver speech about films.

Meanwhile, to encourage young artistes from the hilly areas of the state, the Folk Art and Cultural Guild (FACG), Manipur is also going to organise a special programme titled 'Wake up and Reach Out' on December 19 here.
