Mammoth rally raises curtains on DMK Youth wing conference

Tirunelveli, Dec 15 (UNI) Thousands of cadres of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) took out a mammoth rally to mark the first Youth Wing Conference of the party here this evening.

The rally, led by party's Deputy General Secretary and Minister for Local Administration M K Stalin, was flagged off by Union Minister and Senior Party Leader A Raja from Palayamkottai V O C ground.

A caparisoned elephant on which a DMK partyman sat, holding the party flag, was followed by 56 horses carrying party workers with the red and black flags. The number of horses symbolised the age of Mr Stalin. The large number of volunteers behind the horses passed through the important thoroughfares towards the Medical College Ground, the venue of the Conference. The rally covered a stretch of six km.

Some enthusiastic cadres also wor a face mask of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi to draw the attention of their leader.

Mr Karunanidhi, flanked by his senior cabinet ministers, Dravidar Kazhagam(DK) General Secretary K Veeramani and family members, wife Mrs Dayalu Ammal and daughter K Kanimozhi M.P., sitting on a specially designed dais near the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital inspected the rally. The dais was designed like the famous Thiruvarur temple Car.

Hundreds of policemen were deployed along the rally route as part of tight security measures for the conference.
