Hyderabad, Dec 15 (UNI) Junior doctors in all government hospitals in the state today boycotted duties to protest the alleged attack on a doctor at Nayapool Government Maternity Hospital here.

Police said the senior doctors at the Maternity Hospital also boycotted duties in the 'out patient' and 'in patient' wards, exempting emergency services.

The agitating doctors staged a 'dharna' in front of the hospital, demanding the arrest of the ''assailants'', who injured Dr K Kamakshi.

The doctor was attacked by the relatives of a pregnant woman, who died in the hosptial.

Zakira Begum, an undertrial prisoner died in the hospital yesterday, following which her irate relatives went on a rampage attacking doctors and destroying furniture, police said.

Meanwhile, additional police forces were deployed at the hospital to prevent any untoward incident and security was tightened at all Government Medical Colleges in the city.

It may be recalled that the junior doctors had called off their 11-day strike, demanding the arrest of Asif Nagar MLA Afsar Khan for manhandling the doctors at Niloufer Hospital on December 13.

They had also demanded that the government should provide Special Police Force (SPF) for protection at all government hospitals.
