Chamba, Dec 15 (UNI) Former Jammu and Kashmir minister Mohammad Sharif Naiz today termed the BJP a ''communal party'' and alleged that it pursued an agenda of - dividing people on religion, caste and regional lines''.
Addressing a public meeting at Jawansh in Bhanikhet assembly segment of Chamba district, he said while the Congress stood for the country's unity and integrity, the BJP always raked up issues to ''divide people on narrow sectarian lines''.
Mr Naiz said the state was set to emerge as one of the most developed states in the country under the leadership of the present Congress Government led by Virbhadra Singh.
Lauding the state government for phenomenal developmental activities in the state, especially during the last four-and-half- years, he said the state had done exceptionally well in power generation, health, agriculture, development of road social welfare.
Mr Naiz is the only Congress leader from the adjoining state of Jammu and Kashmir who has been asked by the party high command to campaign in favour of the its candidates in Himachal during the assembly elections.
He appealed to the people of the state to vote for Congress in these assembly elections to ensure uniform and balanced development of the state.
