Fake stamp paper kingpin Telgi sentenced to RI

Bangalore, Dec 15 (UNI) A Special Court today sentenced multi-crore fake stamp paper scam kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi and his two associates to five-year Rigorous Imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 4.5 lakh, on them.

Special Judge for Fake Stamp Paper cases C G Hungund also sentenced P G Pradeep Kumar to one-year RI and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him for his involvement in setting up of three fictitious companies dealing with capital market.

The fictitious companies--Citizen Enterprises, Unique Services and Cauvery Enterprises-- were involved in fake embossing of share certificates for trading in fake stamp paper with HMT Ltd in the city in 2004.

A case was registered against the four accused for offences of criminal conspiracy and counterfeiting of government stamps for the purpose of sale.

The court acquitted three others in the case.
