New Delhi, Dec 15 (UNI) Defending champion Vidit Santosh Gujrathi started defence of his title with an easy win, just like most of the seeded players, in the first round of the 21st National Under-13 Parsvnath chess championship here today.
Top seed, FIDE Master Vidit Santosh Gujrathi (Maharashtra) over came his rival Ashitab Mishra of Delhi without much of a struggle on top board.
However the highlight of the day was the performance of the local lad Anish Jain, who carried full points into the second round by over powering his highly seeded opponent Aditya Chakraborty of West Bengal in an evenly contested match.
Surprisingly, the World Under-10 bronze medalist Prince Bajaj had a tough day in the office as he had to settle for a draw against a lower seeded Gourav Sharan (TN) Second seed and Asian Under-12 bronze medalist Prasanna Rao (Maharashtra) and former World Under-12 champion and third seed Narayanan Srinath also gained full point from their opening round by defeating Atul Bhonsle (Madhya Pradesh) and Avijit Vajpayee (Delhi) respectively.
Local favorite Commonwealth gold medallist Vaibhav Suri opened his campaign in style by easily defeating Jayant Chouhan (Haryana).
