Chennai Sangamam to be held during Pongal festival

Chennai, Dec 15: 'Chennai Sangamam 2008', the second annual festival, showcasing the rich and traditional culture and heritage of Tamil Nadu, would be held during the Pongal festival in January.

Rajya Sabha MP Kanimozhi, one of the architects of the show, said the eight-day-long festival would be larger in scale, scope and depth than the inaugural edition held earlier in the year. She said every year it would be held during Pongal festivities and there would be music concerts, folk arts and folk dances in parks and in open air theatres. About 1,600 artistes would participate in the festival.

A unique food festival would also be an attraction of the festival, to be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at the IIT open air theatre. Dance competitions would also be held for school students.
