Two days after callingoff strike, junior doctors back on roads

Hyderabad, Dec 14 (UNI) Two days after calling off their strike, junior doctors were again on the road today following an attack on a doctor of Government Maternity Hospital at Nayapool here by the relatives of a remand prisoner, who died while undergoing treatment.

According to hospital sources, remand prisoner Jakira, who was four months pregnant with a dead foetus, was admitted to the hospital four days back with abdominal pain. While undergoing treatment, she developed convulsions and died in the hospital today. However, the relatives of the victim blamed the doctor and attacked her.

Agitated by the incident, the junior doctors staged a dharna near the hospital, demanding action against the attackers had the inadequate security arrangements.

The junior doctors took out a rally from the hospital to the Andhra Pradesh High Court. State Medical Education Minister Galla Aruna Kumari, who visited the hospital, appealed to the junior doctors to call off their dharna and resume their duties.

She said the Government had already taken measures for their security. The district Collector and the hospital Superintendent were holding discussions with the junior doctors to resolve the problem, she added.
