Hyderabad, Dec 14 (UNI) The Pune-based Praj Industries has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the Hyderabad-based International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-arid Tropics (ICRISAT) to become a members of its Sweet Sorghum Ethanol Research Consortium (SSERC).

ICRISAT Director General William Dar and Praj Industries CEO and Managing Director Shashank Inamdar signed the agreement on December 10 here.

In a statement, Dr Dar said the partnership will go a long way in enhancing the commercialisation of sweet sorghum for bioethanol production globally. The production of ethanol from sweet sorghum as a biofuel can provide additional income to dryland farmers without compromising their food security.

The SSERC promotes the technology for producing the biofuel through public-private partnership, Dr Dar said.

Praj Industries, a leading biofuels technology company with a number of ethanol and biodiesel production plants, can avail the sweet sorghum research outputs of ICRISAT to further refine their bioethanol engineering activities, he added.
