Kolkata, Dec 14 (UNI) The former soccer players and coaches today blamed East Bengal and Mohun Bagan for their hopeless performance in the I-league.
This year their start to the I-League has been all but auspicious.
While East Bengal has lost two of their five matches, Bagan has lost three. East Bengal lost to Churchill Brother 2-3, while Dempo humbled Bagan 2-0.
Talking to UNI, former Bagan coach and India international Biswajit Bhattacharjee said, '' Too much tinkering with coaches has been the main reason for Mohun Bagan's failure. '' '' Armando Colaco has been with Dempo SC for seven seasons. Here, the coach is not being able to play the correct combination because of a constant lack of understanding. East Bengal is slightly better off. They try to give their coaches time, '' he said.
Another former India international and coach Alok Mukherjee said, '' This is waiting to happen when club officials make teams. East Bengal has their problem, but I think they are better off than Bagan. '' Manas Bhattacharjee, sports critic, adds, '' What do you expect from a foreign coach. Does he understand the heritage of 100 years.
I have doubts over his understanding of football in this part of the world. East Bengal coach Subrata Bhattacharjee is utilising his limited resources manfully. '' Regarding the recruit of foreigners, all three regretted the over dependence on agents.
'' If you bring a player seeing the profile on paper, more often than not you will fail. See McDonald Mukansi, who has been signed by East Bengal, '' Banerjee said.
Biswajit added, '' Barreto and Junior both came young and gave their best. You just can't compare the Okolie Odafe, Edeh Chidi, Ranty Martinez and Eduardo Escobar with our Mukansi and aging Barreto. '' '' The clubs should engage in self scouting. They should be answerable for failures, '' Alok added.
