Jaipur, Dec 14 (UNI) The top BJP leadership in Rajasthan is in a state of dilemma over the matter of highlighting 'development' as poll issue in the state.
In a function held at Party office here on the release of a special issue ''Bajpa Rajasthan'', highlighting the achievements of the four-year Vasundhara Raje government, state party chief Mahesh Sharma reminded the party workers that they should not be complacent over the record of development to bring the party back to power. Rather, he advised them to be humble and work unitedly as past experiences showed that issues like development were put aside during polls.
Mr Sharma said in politics and poll, many other factors work in deciding the winning formula and the governemnt's achievements get side tracked. Citing the example of Chandrababu Naidu in Andhra Pradesh, Mr Sharma said during TDP rule, Hyderabad has attained the status of cyber city and it made an all round development but Mr Naidu had to 'bite the dust' in the elections.
While batting for developemnt as a poll issue, Ms Raje said the experience in Gujarat in the on-going election campaign putforth development could be a real poll issue, adding, ''the way Narendra Modi has become an icon in Gujarat shows development could pay rich electoral dividends.'' Taking credit for the assurance of Rs 1.62 lakh crore investment during the recently held ''Resurgent Rajasthan summit'', the Chief Minister said they have even outsmarted Mr Modi in attracting investment and once the proposal get materialsed, it would create eight lakh direct employment for the youth.
Now, the party has adopted a wait and watch formula as Gujarat election results are likely to play a crucial role in preparing the strategy for Assembly electionsm, hardly one year from now.
