Srinagar, Dec 14: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Finance Abdul Hameed Karra today said a committee would be constituted to formulate Tourism Development Policy (TDP) the state.
To be headed by Economic Advisor to Government, the Committee would have Secretaries of Finance, Tourism and Planning departments besides representatives of tourism and trade as members, Mr Karra said during his pre-budget discussions with captains of tourism, trade, industry and commerce here.
He said tourism, horticulture and handicraft are important sectors of state's economy and the need of the hour was to give further boost to these vital segments.
He said tourism is one of the main recognitions of the state and Kashmir is a sought after destination by tourists.
Unfortunately, he said, this sector got a set back since late 80's but the state government with the support of people is trying its best to revive this important segment of economy.
However, he said tourism cannot survive without peace and endeavor of the coalition government is complete restoration of peace and normalcy for which it is working tirelessly.
Mr Karra said that the proposed TDP would include revival packages, measures for improving infrastructure, long term development schemes and adding new destinations to the tourism map.
He said adequate funds would be ensured for proper marketing, promotion and publicity of tourism potential of the state.
He said the environment has to be kept in view while formulating new policies which he added should be realistic, comprehensive and people friendly.
Responding to the suggestions put forth by office bearers and members of Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Association, Kashmir Hotel and Restaurant Owners Federation, Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Association and Kashmir Chamber of Industries, the Minister assured them that their suggestions would be examined and considered on merit.
