Arrested LTTE cadres remanded in judicial custody

Chennai, Dec 14 (UNI) A magistrate court here today remanded two LTTE cadres, arrested for smuggling computer parts to the banned outfit, into judicial custody after the expiry of three-day police custody.

The 'Q' branch police produced both the accused before Tambaram Judicial Magistrate Murugesan, who remanded them in judicial custody till December 19.

Later, they were lodged at Puzhal Central Prison.

The accused could not be produced before Alandur Judicial Magistrate Ramanathan, who had granted police custody on December 12, because he had left for Puzhal Central Prison for the extension of remand of the accused in various cases through video-conferencing.

Jayakumar (34) of Jaffna, a former cadre of 'Sea Tigers', the marine wing of the LTTE, was arrested along with James (46), hailing from Mannar, and Ravikumar (42) of Chennai on the night of December eight at Chennai airport by the special unit personnel of the 'Q' branch police.

Jayakumar had illegally come to India in February this year. He had quit the Sea Tigers after serving it from 1995 to 2006 and came to India at the instance of LTTE marine wing leader, Susai, and had stayed in Thanjavur in March.

James, who had thrice visited India this year, had come to Chennai in October and smuggled computer spare parts, swimming pads and Global Positioning System (GPS) equipments for the LTTE by concealing it in beedi bundles.
