Pathanamthitta, Dec 13 (UNI) A group of 12 women clad in men's attire, who tried to gain entry into the famed Sabarimala temple were sent back by the police today.

Most of the women hail from Chinnavada village in Andhra Pradesh.

The temple customs forbid entry of women aged between ten and 50 into the hill shrine.

Police said they felt suspicious of the group and stopped them at the foothills of the temple at Pamba. On examination, it was found that there were young women clad in black shirt and dhoti in the group.

They were prevented from proceeding further and allowed to return when the male members of the group returned after having darshan.
