Sugarcane mill chairman shot dead by fellow employee

Hoshiarpur, Dec 13 (UNI) The Chairman of a private sector sugarmill was allegedly shot dead by his Cane Manager after an altercation in the mill premises at Randhawa village near Dasuya this morning.

Giving drtails, SSP Anita Punj who rushed to the spot said that Mr Abhijeet Singh Jaspal, chairman A B Sugar Mill was shot dead by the mills Cane Manager Guriqbal Singh Khalon after an altercation over the quality of (sugar) cane being crushed by the mill. The victim aged 35 was a resident of Urban Estate, Jalanadhar.

Ms Punj said that preliminary investigations revealed that a meeting was going on in the mill premises at the time of the incident. In the meeting a dispute between the deceased and the alleged accused, Guriqbal Singh Kahlon arose over the quality of (sugar) cane.

Enraged at the accusations leveled against him in the meeting, Khalon pulled out his licensed .32 revolver and fired a volley of shots at the mill Chairman and killed him on the spot. He later fled from the mill premises.

The police has registered a criminal case against Kahlon and have dispatched a police party to nab him. The body of Abhijeet after post mortem at the Dasuya civil hospital was handed over to his relatives who had come from Jalandhar.
