Kochi, Dec 13 (UNI) Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil will inaugurate the new building of the 101-year-old Immanuel CSI Church on December 15 here.
Talking to mediapersons today, Vicar TI James said the 23,500 sq ft church building could accomodate nearly 1,100 worshippers.
The new building had been built in Gothic style and some of the prominent features of the old church built in 1907, like central arch and the shape of the doors, had been incorporated.
The motif of the 'Star of Bethlehem' in the foyer represents the mission of the church and the 'Cross' at the front had an elevation of 110 feet visible to seafarers sailing into the Cochin Port, the Vicar noted.
The 150-kg teak 'Holy Cross' with milk-white sheet of glass in the background emphasises the importance of 'Cross' in one's life, he added.
The original terricotta 'Cross' of the old church was placed on the ridge of the portico and tablets from the old church would be kept in the front of the chapel, he observed.
