Jalandhar, Dec 13 (UNI) Punjab Police today rounded up Shiv Sena (Hindustan) National Vice President Vinay Jalandhary and several of his supporters as a preventive measure ahead of their proposed state bandh on December 14 to protest against the installation of Jarnail Singh Bhinderwale's potrait in the museum in Golden Temple complex by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandik Committee (SGPC).
Vinay Jalandhary along with district president Narinder Thapar was rounded up from Jalandhar, while four others were taken into custody from Nawashahr, Kapurthala and Hoshiarpur districts of the Doaba region in connection with the agitation.
According to police sources, nine members of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) including Nirmal Singh, Surjit Singh, Sanghera Singh, Jaspal Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Harbans Singh, Nirmal Singh (II), Joginder Singh and Khuman Singh were taken into custody from Jalandhar while seven others were rounded up from different areas of the Doaba region after the party president Simranjit Singh Mann gave a call to observe December 14 as 'Fateh Divas'' (victory day).
DGP NPS Aulakh has directed all district police chiefs to remain vigilant and take all steps to ensure peace. The preventive arrests were ordered following fears that Shiv Sena and SAD (Amritsar) activists could clash on the day of the agitation.
