Fatehgarh Sahib, Dec 13 (UNI) Punjab Co-operation Minister and General Secretary of Shiromani Akali Dal Kanwaljit Singh today challenged PPCC president Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh for an open debate on their claim of ''political vendetta'' cases against Congressmen.

Mr Singh, here to review the preparations for the 'Jor Mela' being organised from December 24-26, was addressing a gathering of SAD leaders.

Referring to today's sit-in protests by the Congress, he said '' party is resorting to false propaganda against the present SAD-BJP combine government as they have no issue against it.'' He said that he was open for a debate publically with Ms Bhattal and Capt Amarinder Singh and claimed, ''it was Congress regime which booked SAD leaders on false charges but it was the courage of SAD leaders who fought an all out battle against the Congress and have thrown it out of power''.

Calling upon the leaders of the SAD to ensure big attendance at the political conference being organised on Decemeber 25 on the occasion of Jor Mela, he said that besides Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and other SAD leaders, senior leadership of the BJP including its President Rajnath Singh would attend the conference.

''A number of announcements regarding development schemes for Punjab by the ruling combine will be made at the conference,'' he said.

He also informed that around 2,300 chairmen for the various boards and corporations will be appointed soon and after that elections for block samitis, zila parishads and panchayats will follow in the March-April period.
