Panaji, Dec 13 (UNI) Gomes Sports Academy (GSA) today accorded a hero's welcome to the Goa Racing team, which arrived here today with the ''Championship of India'' title in the final round leg of the MRF National Supercross Championship held in Bangalore last Sunday.
GSA president Ashley Gomes, speaking to media persons said Goa riders had performed splendidly in the last round race and were declared as the ''Champions of India''.
Yogesh Barguje was declared the best rider in the country, while his team-mate Allan Sequeira finished third in the foreign intermediate class and Mohammed Kadar came fifth in the Indian expert class. Sameer Sheikh also performed well but due to some technical reasons, had to pull out of the race.
He said the triumph was an all-out effort by the entire team, which consists of riders, trainers, technical departments and most important his research and development centre which is run by Sonia Thali and DeepalI Gomes. ''We have achieved more than what we expected,'' he added.
Mr Gomes said the Goa riders were the clear-cut winners and got well deserved first place in the foreign open class. This class is the highest in India, and winner of this class is declared the ''Champions of India'' for that race.
''We are happy to have achieved this position specially because the greatest team in India, namely Team TVS, which has been dominating this sport for the past decade in India, participated with their best riders like Karan Kadam and Santosh,'' Mr Gomes added.
