Army to conduct Exercise Vajra Sahayata from tommorrow

Jalandhar, Dec 13 (UNI) The Indian Army will conduct a two-day mock exercise to aid the civil administration in dealing with Nuclear, Biological and Chemical(NBC) related disaster from tommorrow at general area of Haripur firing ranges and Phagwara.

The exercise is being conducted with an aim of practicing mobilisation and deployment drills of NBC, Quick Reaction Team, Quick Reaction Medical Team and Internal Security columns.

The exercise, which is being conducted by the Vajra Corps, would be carrying out a mock drill to practice actions in case of a poisonous gas leak in industrial area.

On the first day, lecture demonstration on the drills of teams would be organised. This would be attended by three Brig rank Army officers, Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police Jalandhar alongwith district disaster management cell representatives.

In addition to providing technical assistance to civil administration, the exercise would provide an opportunity to train troops in disaster management.

During the exercise, it is being emphasised to the civil administration that they should impress upon the industrial units to keep antidotes of chemical gases being used by the factories as a precautionary measure and the laid down strict rules and security norms.
