TDP trying to 'deceive' farmers: Cong
Hyderabad, Dec 11 (UNI) The ruling Congress in Andhra Pradesh today alleged that the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was trying to ''cheat'' the farmers by making ''false'' promises.
Talking to newspersons here, State Ministers K Lakshminarayana and B Satyanarayana said TDP President N Chandrababu Naidu had ''no right'' to speak on the issues concerning farmers, after dubbing agriculture a ''mere waste'' while in power.
After ridiculing the Congress for promising free power supply to the peasants, the TDP President, with an eye on the elections, had now made a U-turn, stating he too wanted to provide free power supply, they alleged.
''Why the opposition party had not mentioned the free power scheme in the set of promises delivered at its extended state committee meeting here yesterday,'' they asked.
The TDP's promises at the meeting included advancement of loans to small and marginal farmers at one per cent interest rate and loans at three per cent to big farmers if the TDP was voted to power in the next elections, they pointed out.
