Panchayat candidate dies after being denied Cong ticket in Assam

Tezpur, Dec 12 (UNI) A Congress-ticket aspirant for the post of Councillor in the ensuing Panchayat polls in Jamugurihat of Assam's Sonitpur district died due to massive heart attack after being denied party nomination.

Reports received here at the district headquarters said one Durga Bora was an aspirant from East Murhadal Anchalik Panchayat of Jamugurihat.

On being denied the Congress ticket, Durga Bora suffered a massive heart attack and later died.

Sonitpur district goes to the polls in the second phase on January 4, with nominations being opened from today.

The elections for the 2,199 village pachayats, 23 zila panchayats and 219 anchalik panchayats would be held in three phases across the state, with the first phase slated for December 31 and the third and final phase for January 9.
