Murder accused kills undertrial in Lucknow jail, 5 suspended

Lucknow, Dec 12 (UNI) A murder accused stoned to death a fellow undertail in the district jail here this morning.

Mentally ill Navrang, the murder accused, allegedly killed fellow inmate Om Prakash, an undertrial of Bahriach district, in the jail.

Lucknow district jail authorities have suspended five people, including deputy jailer S P Verma, head prison guard Teerthram Misra, Rampal Gautam, Ram Murti and Jail Doctor Prem Prakash following the incident.

District magistrate Chandrabhanu, who visited the jail along with SSP Akhil Kumar, announced a magisterial probe into the incident.

Navrang is said to have been confined to a secluded cell two days back for his mental condition, but on the advice of jail doctor he was put in the common cell yesterday.

Earlier, another undertrial Anjum was killed under mysterious circumstances in the jail cell.

This will be the second such case in the state capital, after a deranged Vimlesh had killed Rahul in a police lock-up on December 2.
