New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) To sustain the explosive growth of telecom sector, the major industry players have signed memoranda of understanding (MoU) with the leading educational institutes for setting up four Centres of Excellence (CoEs) across the country.
IIT Delhi has signed MoU with Airtel, IIT Kanpur with BSNL, IIT Mumbai with Tata Teleservices, IISc Bangalore with Aircel and Government.
''The concept of cluster of CoEs across the country is a timely move for inculcating the best practices, nurturing innovations and acting as incubator for R&D efforts,'' Telecom Minister A Raja said.
This is one of the most important Public Private Partnership initiatives in the Indian Telecom Sector, Mr Raja added.
MoUs for two CoEs have already been signed in October this year.
''With setting up of these CoEs, I expect qualitative improvement in telecom research in the country to begin,'' the minister said.
