Mumbai, Dec 12 (UNI) Overlooking all the fire safety norms, food for the BMC administration and corporators was cooked using the stoves and cylinders in the premises of BMC Head-quarters today.
The corporators and the administration had assembled in the day long discussion at the BMC head-quarters for a final say on the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transort(BEST) budget. The food and refreshments for them was cooked in the open outside the cabin of the Standing Committee Chairman, Ravindra Waikar.
Big lpg cylinders were used in the cooking of the food that was carried out overlooking all the fire safety norms, thus endangering the lives of people in the building.
Clarifying about this Mr Waikar said, ''It is wrong to cook food in the open, but since food was needed for all the corporators and many officials, the quantity was huge, hence the temporary solution.'' This is not the first time that such a thing has taken place.
There were allegations against the Congress party corporators for cooking food outside their office in the civic head-quarters last month, and Additional Municipal Commissioner Kishore Gajbeye, who is also in-charge of the fire brigade had stated that strict action will be taken against the offenders.
Mr Gajbeye said, ''There is not enough place in the building to cook food for such a large number of people but we will make arrangements soon and have the matter investigated.'' UNI
