Court grants 3 days police custody of 2 LTTE cadres

Chennai, Dec 12 (UNI) A magistrate court here today granted three days' police custody of two LTTE cadres, arrested for smuggling computer parts to the banned outfit.

On a petition filed by the 'Q' branch police seeking five days police custody for further investigation, Alandur Judicial Magistrate Ramanathan granted three days police custody of Jayakumar and James alias Raja.

The court directed the Q branch police to produce the duo, who were brought from Puzhal Central prison amid tight security, before the court by 1700 hrs on December 14.

Jayakumar (34) of Jaffna, a former cadre of 'Sea Tigers,' the marine wing of the LTTE, was arrested along with James (46), hailing from Mannar, and Ravikumar (42) of Chennai, on the night of December 8 at Chennai airport by the Special Unit personnel of the 'Q' branch police.

Jayakumar had illegally come to India in February this year. He had quit the Sea Tigers after serving it from 1995 to 2006 and entered India at the instance of LTTE marine wing leader Susai, and had stayed in Thanjavur in March.

James, who had visited India thrice this year, had come to Chennai in October and smuggled computer spare parts, swimming pads and Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment for the LTTE by concealing it in beedi bundles.
