New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today urged the DMRC and RITES to work in coordination so that the ultimate objective of inter-operationability of metro and bus routes for the benefit of the citizens can be achieved.

The DMRC and RITES are executing the Delhi Metro and Delhi Bus Rapid Transit System Corridor respectively.

Ms Dikshit was speaking to newspersons after reviewing the construction of Delhi Bus Rapid Transit System Corridor from Ambedkar Nagar to Defence Colony.

The issue of allignment of the DMRC route with the Delhi Bus Rapid Transit System Corridor was discussed in detail.

Mr E Sreedharan CMD, DMRC assured the Chief Minister that DMRC will do everything to ensure that there is no problem to the Bus Rapid Transit System Corridor due to Metro construction and suitable adjustment would be made by the Metro.

He also pointed out that the points of conflicts are over a very small portion of 700 m out of the entire length of bus transit corridor of 15 km and the problem can be solved.

After going through a detailed presentation on various conflicting points and resolving the outstanding disputes, it was decided that the target dates fixed for operationalising metro corridor as well as Bus Rapid Transit Corridor would be met and there will be no time overruns.

The Central Secretariat to Badarpur metro line is to be completed before the Commonwealth Games 2010, whereas, Ambedkar Nagar to Defence Colony Bus Rapid Transit Corridor is to be completed by April, 2008.

The major problem regarding the inter-section at Lajpat Nagar where the metro has to pass over a long span bridge across the crossing, would temporarily make the bus stop at Lajpat Nagar dysfunctional for a period of 12 to 15 months.

However, this is being necessitated because of the heavy machinery of DMRC, which will be deployed at the site. However, the CMD, DMRC assured that he would speed-up the work so that the period of disruption can be minimized and the bus stop could be made operational at the earliest.

Also present on the occasion were Group General Manager, RITES, Col Bhasin, Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, Pr Secretary (Transport) Spolia, CMD, DTC Anshu Prakash and Asstt Prof, IIT Geetam Tiwari.
