CEO advises electorate to bring EPICs on Dec 19

Shimla, Dec 12 (UNI) The Election Commission today advised the voters to bring their Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to cast their votes for the remaining 65 assembly constituencies where polling is to be held on December 19.

However, voters who have not been issued EPICs should come with either their passports, driving licenses, income tax identity (PAN) cards or other proofs of identity an election official said in a release here.

He said documents of public sector undertakings, local bodies or public limited companies, passbooks issued by public sector banks, post office and Kisan passbooks, student identity cards, issued by recognised educational institutions, property documents such as pattas, registered deeds and ration cards, SC, ST, OBC certificates issued by competent authority would be accepted for establishing their identities.

Pension documents like ex-servicemen's pension book, pension payment order, ex-servicemen's widow or dependent certificates, old age pension order, widow pension order, freedom fighter identity cards, arms licenses, certificate of physical handicap by competent authority and copy of parivar register as maintained by gram panchayat, urban local bodies and duly issued by gram panchayat and vikas adhikari, competent authorities, and domicile certificate would also be considered as proof for voting purpose.

The Spokesperson said all documents issued on or before September 30 would only be considered.

Any document, which was available only for the head of a family, would also be entertained for the purpose of identification of other members of the family provided all the members came together and were identified by the head of the family, he said.
