6,000 liquor bottles seized on Punjab-J
Jammu, Dec 12 (UNI) At least 6,000 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), being illegally imported to Jammu and Kashmir, were seized on the National Highway at Lakhanpur toll post, official sources today said.
The state excise department officials on the Lakhanpur toll post on J&K-Punjab border yesterday recovered 150 cases of the IMFL from a vehicle, which was supposed to carry wheat as per the challan, sources said.
''On physical verification, 150 cases containing 6,000 bottles of IMFL of different sizes were found concealed under the wheat bags,'' sources said.
The driver of the vehicle, however, escaped after parking the vehicle.
Sources said the liquor was being smuggled in Jammu and Kashmir with an intention to evade excise duty.
