3 suspected Maoists held in TN village

Theni, Tamil Nadu, Dec 12 (UNI) Police have arrested three suspected Maoists, including a woman, at Siraipaarai village in this district.

Police today said the trio was arrested yesterday following a complaint from the villagers that a group of five people, clad in green uniform, was calling upon locals to take up an armed struggle.

The group had distributed pamphlets, especially to school boys, urging them to take up armed struggle.

The trio, suspected to be members of a banned Maoist outfit, was trying to revive its activities in Tamil Nadu, police claimed.

Senior police officials, along with a large police force, rushed to Varushanadu forest range to launch combing operations.

Earlier, the police had arrested three Maoists on June 26, while they were undergoing arms training at Murugamalai forest in this district.
