Agartala, Dec 11 (UNI) The students of the Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) today boycotted the classes to protest the Union Health Ministry's decision to increase the internship period of MBBS students to three years, including one year in rural areas.

Talking to mediapersons here, the students alleged that the Ministry's decision of increasing the internship period would create serious problems for their career, as they would now have to spend minimum seven years in study.

The students staged demonstrations and shouted slogans in the college premises, demanding the Ministry to change its decision, considering the future of the students.

''It has now become a national issue and students from every nook and corner of the country are protesting the move. We would continue the movement until government changes its decision,'' Ashok Das, a third year student of the AGMC, said.
